Why should I write for the blog?

If you are a student leader, then your time probably makes a "whoosh" sound as it flies by. So why get involved in something that requires even a few droplets of precious time?

Because being a writer for the SL blog offers you:

Community: we're building a group of enthusiastic, motivated people who understand and support one another because we care about the same things.
Connections: opportunities to meet people from all over the country.
Learning: writing for the blog means getting feedback from people who may have already experienced what you are currently facing.
Fame and Fortune: okay, maybe not, but you will have the opportunity to establish yourself as a dedicated leader in the eyes of other students, administrators, and future employers.

Who can be a writer?

Student leaders: present, former, and future are all heartily invited to write for the blog. If your writing can inform, inspire, or provoke thinking and discussion, then there is a place for you in this community. A student leader doesn't have to be a club president or a member of the student government - just an individual with leadership responsibilities or interests.

How often do I have to write?

The core group of writers is a selective group to ensure high quality, but we do offer trial accounts for people interested in being a part of the team. We ask that you commit to at least 2-5 posts per month, but the more the merrier.

What should I write about?

Anything that you wish someone would have told you about. Tell us what you’ve learned, what you’ve experience, and what you want to know. Describe an event you’re planning, a conversation that motivated you, a problem that’s frustrating you, or a news item that gave you food for thought or a good chuckle.

How do I let the team know I'm interested?

1) Send an e-mail with your name, institution, link to your Facebook account (if you have one) and a brief introduction of yourself to us at > theslbloggers @ gmail dot com
2) Once approved, we'll set you up with a trial Typepad login (the blog platform) and you will receive an e-mail from Typepad. Just follow the steps in the e-mail and you are ready to create your first post!
Have other questions we didn't cover? Just e-mail us at > theslbloggers @ gmail dot com
